From Beginner To Lead Scrambler In Six Days
Learn To Lead Scramble is a six-day scrambling course in the rugged mountains of West Cork and the spectacular ridges of the MacGillycuddy Reeks.
Over the six days you will focus on moving from beginner to a competent, safe and self sufficient scrambler; able to lead or second a mountaineering route. You will cover knots, rope work, belaying and emergency abseiling. You will cover choosing and testing anchors, placing runners, leading a rocky step and communication. You will put your skills into real practice, under close supervision, on high ridges.
At the end of this course you will be a competent, safe and self sufficient scrambler; with some real scrambling experience; able to tackle Irish and UK mountaineering routes.
Learning to mountaineer safely; including placing anchors and runners; is a long apprentice style journey, which generally is done under the careful supervision of a more experienced partner. While you will be a lead scrambler/mountaineer at the end of our intensive course, safe mountaineering will be a learning journey that will continue long after your scrambling course.
